Modern Over-Bed Wardrobe Design | Bridging Storage Cabinets

We completed an over-bed wardrobe design combining matt off-white lacquer fronts (RAL 9010), open natural oak bookshelves and a vertically stitched upholstered headboard. Concealed linear LEDs beneath the shelves, brass handles, integrated two-drawer bedside units and overhead storage bring a bright, organised, luxury hotel-suite feel to primary bedrooms.

Our aim was to make storage an integral part of the bedroom architecture by combining the headboard wall with built-in bookshelves and wardrobes. Open oak display niches and an upholstered headboard enrich the smooth white lacquer surfaces, while concealed shelf lighting and brass accents give the space an airy, functional and elegant character.

Design Decisions That Transform the Space

Matt Off-White/Cream Lacquer (RAL 9010) Over-Bed Wardrobe with Open Natural Oak Bookshelves

This primary bedroom project creates an airy, symmetrical storage composition around the headboard wall. Floor-to-ceiling matt off-white lacquer fronts (RAL 9010 Pure White/off-white) are combined with open natural oak-veneered bookcase towers and a textured, vertically stitched upholstered headboard. Tall wardrobes on both sides of the bed, overhead storage cupboards, integrated two-drawer bedside units, brushed brass vertical handles and concealed warm shelf LEDs at 2700K–3000K give the room the bright, elegant atmosphere of a contemporary hotel suite.

Material and Colour Balance

Smooth matt off-white lacquer (RAL 9010) was applied to the full-height wardrobe fronts, overhead storage cupboards and bedside drawer fronts.
Natural oak veneer was used on the four-tier open bookcase towers on either side of the bed, the headboard backdrop and the upper display shelf.
A beige mélange fabric headboard with vertical quilted stitching enhances comfort and acoustic calm.
Concealed warm linear LEDs at 2700K–3000K are recessed beneath the open shelves and along the ceiling of the central timber niche to highlight books and ceramic objects.
Brushed brass/antique bronze cylindrical vertical handles add refinement to the tall doors and bedside drawers; push-to-open mechanisms were selected for the overhead cupboards.
A suspended ceiling with concealed cove lighting, warm herringbone oak parquet and a textured beige rug complete the natural palette.

Technical and Architectural Design

Integrated bookshelves and bedside units: open timber bookcases rising on either side of the bed, with two-drawer bedside units below, transform the bed surround into a functional and attractive display area.
Layered concealed lighting: independent linear LEDs in each shelf module and the central niche provide both direct reading light and ambient illumination at the headboard.
An airy, symmetrical composition: warm open timber niches and brass handles soften the matt off-white lacquer volumes, bringing a spacious, bright and balanced sense of architectural depth to the room.
